The family of Johhny Cash has retained counsel to stop Garth Brooks from opening “an unauthorized memorial” in Johnny’s hometown of Nashville.

Brooks, whose bar “Friends in Low Places” will be opening soon, planned to dedicate a second-floor exhibit to the country great who left us more than 20 years ago.

“The Cash family is upset with Garth’s stance on some polarizing issues,” said Attorney Joe Barron, “He never got permission to use Johnny’s likeness or to have a memorial within a few thousand feet of the Johnny Cash Museum.”

Basically, Brooks made a couple of mistakes. “We would have overlooked the permission and signed off no problem,” said Horatio Neufield Cash, one of Johnny’s favorite grandchildren, “but he went and spat in the face of grampa’s own fans.”

Now, Brooks will be left with a vacant spot on the second floor, that his spokesman, Art Tubolls, says he’ll probably fill with a tribute to his favorite Drag Queens.

“Garth is an advocate for most liberal ideals, so having a tribute to drag is only prudent,” said Tubolls, “he’s also planning on having an area in the back of the bar for children with a limited drink menu. Nothing too strong for the tykes.”

According to Tennessee law, parents are allowed to offer their children beer and wine, but not spirits, so the kiddie area will qualify under the day care rule. God bless America.
